Online Banking Security Features

2-Step Verification (2SV)

2-Step Verification (2SV) provides an extra layer of security for online banking, mobile banking, and MemberDirect Small Business users.
2SV replaces the use of static challenge questions and answers with dynamically generated one-time verification codes. Verification codes will be sent to you via text message (SMS) or email that you set up. This method of verification confirms your identity during high-risk logins, such as a login from a new device or location.

Self-Serve Reset PAC

Reset PAC allows personal members to reset their online banking passwords without contacting Northern Savings for assistance.
Self-Serve Reset PAC is a digital banking feature that allows you to reset your Online Banking Password whenever you need to. To use the feature, you need to enter the last three digits of your Social Insurance Number and you must be enrolled in 2-Step Verification.

Keep your account safe with alerts

Alerts provide an easy way to keep track of your money and protect your accounts. Alerts can be sent to your mobile device via text message or to your email account. To help safeguard your account, we recommend that all online/mobile banking users set up this free feature.

This alert notifies you that your online PAC has been changed.

Security Tip: If a fraudster manages to get into your account and changes your login credentials you will be notified.

This alert notifies you that access to online banking has been locked because the number of attempts to sign in exceeded the number allowed.

Security Tip: If a fraudster attempts to access your account and are unsuccessful, due to password fails, you will be notified.

This alert notifies you when a new bill payment vendor account is added to your online banking account.

Security Tip: Often fraudsters will set up a new bill vendor such as a credit card and transfer funds from your account to this new vendor as a way to take funds.

This is an alert that notifies you when you have received an enhanced personal message in online banking from Northern Savings.

This alert notifies you when a new Interac e-Transfer recipient has been added.

Security Tip: Fraudsters will use Interac e-Transfers to send money to themselves from hacked bank accounts.
