Meet the leadership team guiding our credit union

Jamie Malthus

Director

Director Since: 2018

Term Expiration: 2027

"It is a privilege to work with NSCU in support of the well-being of our members and communities."

Background/Experience:
Jamie is a professional engineer with the Prince Rupert Port Authority with over eight years of management level experience. He holds a degree in Civil Engineering and a Masters of Business Administration. Jamie brings his knowledge of working on various capital projects, managing the Port’s asset management department, strong effective communication skills and strategic planning experience to the Board.

 

 

Angela Gruber

Vice Chair

Background/Experience:
Angela is a manager with the Prince Rupert Port Authority with over 15 years experience in Information Technology. Angela has the following certifications: Project Management Professional (PMP), Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert: Data Management and Analytics, and IT Information Library (ITIL) Foundations. Angela brings knowledge of project management and Information Technology to the Board.

 

Christian Theberge

Background/Experience:
Christian is a General Manager of Shames Mountain overseeing daily operations, strategic planning, staff management, and service delivery. He brings a practical understanding of business operations, financial stewardship, community engagement, and solid working knowledge of cooperative principles and accounting practices to the Board. His experience in managing budgets, capital projects, insurance, and public communication positions him to contribute to strong, transparent governance.


Joseph Lavoie

Background/Experience:
Joe has over 21 years of business experience both in retail and wholesale divisions, including telecommunications and real estate. Joe holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance and General Business and has previous commercial banking experience. Joe is skilled in leadership and succession planning and oversaw a multi-million infrastructure project. Joe brings a business perspective and acumen to the Board.

 

Sylvan Daugert

Director

Background/Experience:
Sylvan provides services as a Superintendent of Public Works, providing skills within a collaborate decision making processes and implementing the vision of the mayor and council. Sylvan also serves on the boards of the GwaiiTel Society and the Scholarship Foundation of the Pacific. He is a long-time volunteer with the Masset Fire Department, math tutor and rugby coaching. Sylvan has the aptitude to analyze information and a strong understanding of effective decision-making processes.

 

Patrick Robins

Background/Experience:
Patrick’s career over the past 20 years extends to roles as a City Manager, CEO, CFO and Corporate Officer within the public and private sectors. He is the principal with the consulting firm Woodland-Robins providing governance, business, and strategic planning to a wide range of government, private and not-for-profit sector clients. Patrick holds formal education and credentials in business, and brings accounting and management skills to the Board.

Blaine Young

Director

“With a long-standing connection to Prince Rupert, I understand the important role Northern Savings plays locally. I am committed to contributing my IT expertise and project leadership to support strong governance, long-term stability, and member value.”

Background/Experience:
Blaine brings 18 years of experience in IT and Digital Business, specializing in project management. As the Enterprise Applications Administrator for the Prince Rupert Port Authority, he leads cross-functional initiatives and coordinate software implementation projects. His work also gives him practical insight into financial workflows, internal controls, and data integrity. His background in project leadership, systems governance, and collaborative problem-solving supports effective oversight and strong, informed Board decision-making.

 

Beng Leng Favreau

Director

Director Since: 2022

Background/Experience:
As the current Executive Director of Literacy Haida Gwaii Society, Beng Leng works closely with seniors, at-risk youth, and adults in many areas of literacy including, Adult Graduation Diploma, financial wellness, workplace readiness and essential computer skills. Her work experience provides community relations and management skills to the Board and includes; fundraising, event management, resource development, and community service. Beng Leng has strong working relationships with Haida Gwaii’s First Nation’s councils, municipalities, educational, healthcare, and nonprofit organizations with extended educational and arts network across Canada.

 

Jennifer Rice

Background/Experience:
Jennifer is a dedicated community builder with over a decade of leadership serving the North Coast. As a former three-term MLA and Parliamentary Secretary, she navigated complex legislative environments and served as Deputy Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee. She brings extensive experience in stakeholder engagement, public relations, budget oversight, managing office operations, staff mentorship, and volunteer coordination to the Board. Jennifer has a proven track record of building long-term relationships with Indigenous leadership, industry associations, and all levels of government.
