Position Description

Under broad supervision, this position processes a variety of personal lines policies and intricate insurance contracts related to residential homes and personal belongings. This position requires Level II licensing to represent commercial lines. The Insurance Broker II is responsible for the maintenance of the credit union and agency’s positive public reputation and brand.

General Duties

  • Underwrites a variety of insurance policies relating to commercial lines to ensure businesses are covered for risks facing their operations such as fire, professional liability, business interruption and errors and omissions
  • Responsible for signing authority to bind agency to individual policies
  • Identifies needs of commercial clients and provides information on varying insurance packages such as risk coverage, benefits and other policy features best suited to meet the client’s needs and works with clients to manage and reduce risk
  • Processes personal lines policies and contracts often including items such as residential and recreational property, boats and other personal pleasure craft, and jewellery
  • Identifies client needs and provides information on varying insurance packages such as risk coverage, benefits and other policy features best suited to meet the client’s needs and works with clients to manage and reduce risk
  • Recommends and implements a client’s insurance coverage, premiums and collects payment
  • Responsible for ensuring referrals for Northern Savings’ products and services whenever appropriate
  • Responds to emergencies and assists clients with their claims
  • Fosters relationship building through service excellence and product knowledge
  • Maintains confidentiality

Qualifications Required

Education

  • Secondary School Diploma required
  • Level II License required

Experience

  • Previous insurance sales and service experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Previous community volunteer experience is required

Skills

  • Demonstrated sales skills
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • Working knowledge, skills and experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) and TAM systems
  • Working knowledge of insurance products and services preferred
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements required
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work within time constraints, under pressure and competing priorities
  • Ability to communicate and liaise professionally with all members, potential customers, community groups and co-workers while maintaining confidentiality
